About the Center for Art & Theatre

Opened in 2008, the Center for Art & Theatre is a breathtaking public venue for performances, art exhibitions and events.

Located in the center of the Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus, the Center for Art & Theatre is home to four active art galleries and a Black Box Theatre.

Theatre & Performance

The Center for Art & Theatre is home to the Department of  Communication Arts‘ Black Box Theatre, which seats up to 150 people. The Black Box Theatre is fully equipped with a sound booth and catwalk with state of the art equipment and technology. The Center for Art & Theatre also houses a Green Room, Costume Shop and roll-up door to bring in set designs created in Theatre & Performance’s Scene Shop just three blocks away.

The Theatre & Performance Program is staffed by theatre faculty from the Department of  Communication Arts. Performers are made up of students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Department of Communication Arts Theatre & Performance program provides the community with four major productions a year. In addition, they present smaller performances, such as the annual Wham, Bam, Play Slam festival.

Georgia Southern University’s Theatre & Performance Program is an Institutional member of The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).

Gallery Programming

The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art offers diverse gallery programming for the Georgia Southern University community and the surrounding region. The Center for Art & Theatre (CAT) showcases two permanent collections – The Betty Foy Sanders Georgia Artists Collection and Smith Callaway Banks Southern Folk Art Collection. It also features multiple venues to view contemporary and traditional artwork created by students and professional artists.

Additionally, just off of the Center for Art & Theatre’s atrium is a sculpture garden which many have enjoyed during functions held in the building.
